Unique Time Lapse Video Is Super-Cool Idea, Though Not Too Visually Appealing
Sixty years ago, thirty years ago, and this summer the BBC took a video of a train ride through some not too appealing scenery. Then they put them all together in a bit of a mind-bending timelapse video that’s embedded below. If it showed things that were a little more interesting, it could be a great video to show English Language Learners and then periodically stop it to have them compare the th

Earth-Picker Is A New Online Geography Game
Earth-Picker is a new online geography games that’s somewhat similar to other ones using Google Street View that can be found on The Best Online Geography Games list. You’re shown a location and have to identify on a map where you think it is in the world. You’re told how close you are, and how your guess compares to the ones made by other players. I’m adding it to that games list.

The Best Articles About The Study Showing Social Emotional Learning Isn’t Enough
Earlier today, I posted about a new study showing that social emotional learning isn’t enough — that poverty causes a lack of self-control and perseverance and it’s not the other way around. Since that time, several other articles have come out on the same research, and I thought I’d collect them here: I’ll start off with my piece, Social Emotional Learning Can Help, But More Research Shows It’s

Social Emotional Learning Can Help, But More Research Shows It’s Not Enough
Obviously, I’m a big supporter of helping students develop intrinsic motivation and a great capacity for self-control and “grit.” In fact, I’ve written two books on how educators can do just that…. However, it’s not enough. I’ve previously written a popular post titled New Research Shows Why Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character Education Are Not Enough. It showed that: …the chain of causa

August’s (2013) Best Tweets — Part Five
Every month I make a few short lists highlighting my choices of the best resources I shared through (and learned from) Twitter, but didn’t necessarily include them in posts here on my blog. I’ve already shared in earlier posts several new resources I found on Twitter — and where I gave credit to those from whom I learned about them. Those are not included again in this post. Edcanvas Changes Name To Blendspace
Ordinarily, I don’t write a post about a relatively unimportant issue as a tool’s name change. However, since I’ve written so positively about Edcanvas in the past, I wanted readers to know that they’ve just changed their name to Blendspace (though the tool itself is the same).
